Molded Felt Bowl

For our final project in Product Design 3, we were tasked with creating a product that could be sold at local Easton store Mercantile Home. I chose to create a molded felt jewelry bowl.

During my research I found no helpful resources on how to mold felt, make it rigid, and remain soft to the touch. So I had to design a manufacturing process myself. My first attempt used resin brushed onto the bottom of the piece, then pressed in a mold. The top would remain soft, but the bottom was encased in resin. I then tried using glue instead of resin, and had much better effects. With the right amount of glue, the bowl would remain soft on the outside, with a hard interior structure from the absorbed glue.
